WOMEN IN OIL AND GAS6a83d1bff3ac8708a559e52d146f0e13

Increasing female workforce participation in the oil and gas sector

Sunday 13 May 2012
The Sebel Playford
120 North Terrace, Adelaide
(opposite the convention centre)
Seminar: 3:00pm – 5:30pm

Hosted and coordinated by Ernst & Young

Women in oilThe availability of skilled labour and decreasing levels of productivity is a significant risk for the oil and gas sector, as investment and construction activity rises to unprecedented levels. The long term impact could mean increased costs, further reductions in productivity, project delays and failure to meet contractual obligations.

The National Resources Sector Employment Taskforce estimates that the workforce requirements for new resources projects could increase from 30,000 workers in 2010 to 70,000 workers in 2013. The shortage of tradespeople will be particularly acute, with an estimated 45,000 workers required to fill new jobs and to replace those leaving the workforce. And specifically relating to Australia's two largest oil and gas markets, Queensland will be required to fill 140,000 jobs in the resource sector, whilst 240,000 new jobs are expected to be created by 2017 in Western Australia. So how should the oil and gas sector deal with this increasing risk?

This forum will comprise a distinguished panel of sector specialists who will discuss the strategic necessity of increasing female workforce participation in the oil and gas industry. They will explore the barriers to entry for women and how organisations can initiate programs to help combat these issues. The panel will also discuss the decreasing levels of productivity and what your organisation can be doing now to improve performance.
